Kim Salazar is a digital experience design expert at Nielsen Norman Group.

I’ve worked in digital technology and experience design for 19 years. A former front-end developer and a lifetime learner, I was hungry for ways to create more impact with my work. After completing my graduate degree in user-centered design, I found my home in digital product strategy and design.

I’ve built a successful career combining my experience-science and technical expertise with my enthusiasm for creative problem-solving. Over the years, I’ve dedicated myself to exploring the space between top-level CX strategy and product-level execution.

As an industry thought leader in journey-centric design operations, I have a comprehensive understanding of the omnichannel experience ecosystem and operational stack. I understand that the biggest CX opportunities come from longitudinal experience design innovation.

As a consultant, I help clients build custom operational models and frameworks to turn CX insights into action. It has been incredibly rewarding to work with clients to maximize business outcomes through applied experience design.

However, as an everyday innovator, I’m looking for new problems to solve. I seek a position that enables me to be fully engaged with the organization’s vision and digital growth strategy.

2015 – Current

Nielsen Norman Group is a UX research and consulting firm with a reputation for being the worldwide authority on User Experience research and design.

In this role, I’ve developed a comprehensive skillset as an analyst, consultant, researcher, public speaker, and content creator. While also having the autonomy to conduct research and create original thought leadership in the facets of this field that I find most interesting and exciting. My 4 main areas of expertise include:

  • CX transformation

  • Omnichannel experience design and service design strategy

  • Journey Management and Journey design operations

  • E-commerce user experience design

As an employee, I’m a well-regarded project manager, capable of managing simultaneous initiatives. As a consultant, I am adept at working with senior crossfunctional stakeholders. With expertise focused on longitudinal experience design and journey-centric design operations, I’ve helped dozens of clients maximize revenue generation and cut operational costs.

2013 – 2015

As a Senior User Experience Architect at global digital advertising agency VMLY&R, I worked with clients in industries such as Food and Beverage, Insurance, Pharmaceuticals, and Consumer Products.

My longest client engagement was with Gatorade, where I was the lead user researcher and UX designer for Gatorade.com, and student athlete mobile application, Gatorade Edge.

Outside of work

Outside work, I love to cook, work in my garden, and hang out with family and friends. I’ve taught myself the world of fine jewelry, allowing me to fulfill my entrepreneurial interests by buying and selling pre-owned antique and vintage fine jewelry.
